While CEO of the Footscray Football Club, he opened and administered the first club gaming venue in Victoria, based at the Whitten Oval (formerly Western Oval) in 1992. As part of his sojourn into football administration, he was involved in a landmark case in which club member Irene Chatfield obtained an injunction in the Supreme Court to stay a secret merger which had been negotiated by the club’s board with the then VFL and the Fitzroy Football Club. Dennis ‘blew the whistle’ on the secret merger which led to an avalanche of community support and the court case which overturned the merger.

Dennis returned to private practice in 1996 and is an expert in Liquor and Gaming Law.

Dennis is regarded as one of the leading lawyers in Liquor and Gaming Law and acts for many prominent venues. He has had the carriage of a number of prominent applications before the Liquor Licensing Panel, the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
